Our honey bees – a symbol of sustainability

Honey bees represent a sustainable way of live like no other farm animal. At the same time, bees are our third most important agricultural animal, right after cattle and pigs. Perhaps even more important than honey yield is the incredible pollination performance of the animals, which pollinate a large number of wild and agricultural flowering plants, such as fruit trees, rapeseed or berry bushes. At this point, however, one should not forget the 600 native species of wild bees and other pollinating insects.

More than just honey

In addition to honey, beekeepers obtain high-quality beeswax, antibiotic propolis and even bee venom that can be used therapeutically.

„If you want to increase your wealth, you should take bees as an example. They collect the honey without destroying the flowers. They are even useful for the flowers. Accumulate your wealth without destroying its sources and it will steadily increase.“

(Siddhartha Gautama)

Sustainable collectors and supporters of the ecosystem

Bees do not eat their food plants, but rather carefully collect nectar for honey production as well as flower pollen, which is used to make food for their offspring. They also collect plant resins from which they produce the kit resin propolis, which they use to seal and protect their hives.

Essential beekeeping – bee-friendly and close to nature

Since the beginning, we have focused our small beekeeping on natural beekeeping, a form of biodynamic beekeeping that was developed by the Mellifera e.V. association in Rosenfeld in Baden-Württemberg. We look at the bee colony, the so-called “bee”, as a whole organism and try to harmonize its needs with beekeeping use.

Important elements of natural beekeeping

Integrity of the brood nest in a one-room hive

Reproduction based on swarming instinct and on-site mating of the young queens

Natural honeycomb construction without prefabricated middle walls

Treatment against the Varroa mite with organic acids, which also occur naturally

Ethical attitude, perception and relationship to the bee colony
